The Institute for Rural Development and Innovation Studies (IRDS) at the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), has undertaken a joint inspection with the KNUST Development Office of a newly completed facility designed to enhance teaching, research and community engagement.

The exercise brought together staff of the Institute, faculty members, and officials from the Development Office to assess the quality of work, functionality of the facility, and its readiness for full operational use.

The inspection was attended by the Director of IRDS, Prof. Ebenezer Owusu Addo, alongside representatives from the KNUST Development Office and members of the implementation team.

Addressing participants, Prof. Owusu Addo expressed appreciation to staff and stakeholders whose contributions made the project possible.

“On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and the Provost of the College, and to every staff member, I want to say a big thank you. People often assume projects like this are donor-funded, but this is the collective sweat of staff. These are resources individuals could have used personally but chose to commit towards a shared vision,” he said.

He added that the project reflects the Institute’s capacity to mobilise internal resources and translate ideas into tangible infrastructure, noting that “this achievement is to our credit, and we deserve commendation for it.”

The inspection exercise was characterised by interactive discussions, technical clarifications, and questions from stakeholders, focusing on structural integrity, design efficiency, and the long-term sustainability of the facility.

Mr. Kojo Sarfo-Kantanka, Chief Architect at the KNUST Development Office, commended the Institute for its commitment and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle. He assured management of continued technical support to ensure the facility meets required standards and serves its intended purpose effectively.

The building was earlier commissioned by His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene and Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
