The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) has held a stakeholder consultation meeting to review its Strategic Plan, (Plan 2K35), as part of efforts to strengthen its position as a centre of excellence in agricultural education.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), GIZ, and the Forestry Commission to provide input on the College’s strategic direction and priorities.

Speaking at the meeting, the Provost of CANR, Prof. Dadson Awunyo-Vitor, underscored the importance of stakeholder collaboration in shaping a practical and impactful strategic plan.

“It is important that we work together to ensure that the strategic plan aligns with the direction we want the College to take.

I expect all stakeholders to help identify gaps and propose solutions that will enable us to achieve our goals and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.

The Chairman of the Strategic Plan Review Committee, Prof. Vincent Logah, presented an overview of the review process, highlighting key findings from the previous plan and outlining priorities for the next phase.

His presentation covered funding strategies, monitoring and evaluation, risk analysis, implementation frameworks, and performance targets.

Prof. Logah emphasised that effective implementation would be critical to achieving the College’s aspirations.

“Moving from excellence to excellence requires commitment and teamwork. The success of this plan will depend on our collective efforts to mobilise resources, strengthen partnerships, and advance the College’s mission for the benefit of all stakeholders,” he said.

Key priorities of the strategy include digital transformation, the integration of artificial intelligence into teaching and research, the modernisation of laboratories and classrooms.

Stronger industry partnerships, enhanced field-based training, increased research impact, staff development, student well-being, and improved infrastructure.

Following deliberations on the proposed plan, stakeholders shared their perspectives, identified areas for improvement, and offered recommendations to strengthen its implementation and long-term impact.

The major focus of the strategy is to produce industry-ready graduates who are entrepreneurial, innovative, and equipped to create employment opportunities rather than solely seek jobs.

The plan also seeks to strengthen international collaborations, enhance the College’s global visibility, expand research commercialisation, and foster a more supportive and inclusive environment for students and staff.Top of Form
