The Department of Fisheries and Watershed Management received a donation of seven (7) flat wedge mesh gauges from the University of Rhode Island. The University of Rhode Island is leading the Sustainable Fisheries Management Project (SFMP) in Ghana which seeks to contribute to rebuild targeted marine fish stocks.

Ghana’s fishing industry is flooded with unapproved nets and the determination of the mesh sizes have often been a source of conflict. The gauges will be used for research and will reduce bias and conflicts associated with mesh size determination.
