The Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), Prof. Dadson Awunyo-Vitor has urged new students to take full advantage of the orientation programme as they begin their academic journey at the University.
Addressing the freshers, the Provost congratulated them on gaining admission into the various programmes offered by the College and emphasised the need for students to familiarise themselves with university life and regulations.

“Let me start by congratulating you for making it to the various programmes of the College. It is important that you equip yourselves with the conditions and expectations at the University because there is a significant transition from what you experienced at the senior high school or sixth form level,” he said.
He explained that unlike senior high school, where students have housemasters, housemistresses, and close parental supervision, university life requires greater independence and personal responsibility.
“The situation at the University is completely different. That is why orientation is necessary. If there is anything you do not understand, raise your hand, ask questions, and seek clarification,” he advised.
The Provost further reminded the students that they were beginning a four-year academic journey, structured into semesters, and encouraged them to take not only the College orientation but also faculty and departmental orientations seriously, as these sessions are critical to preparing them adequately for lectures and academic life.
Also speaking at the programme, the Deputy Registrar, Mr. Charles Asamoah Boateng, welcomed the freshers to the College and highlighted the importance of understanding the University’s systems and rules.

“Congratulations. We expected you, and you are here. We need to tell you who we are, where you can go, where you cannot go, what you should do, what you should not do, and how we will support you throughout your stay here,” he stated.
He noted that the orientation was designed to help students integrate smoothly into the University community and make informed decisions throughout their studies.
The orientation programme featured a series of presentations from key units, including the University Information Technology Services, the Examinations Office, and the Library, all aimed at equipping students with essential information to navigate academic and administrative processes at CANR.
Also present at the programme were Deans of the various faculties, Heads of Departments, and other senior members of the College.
