The KNUST Wellness Centre, as part of its annual flagship programme, has organised a comprehensive health screening exercise for members of the university community.

The initiative, held across various colleges including the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), forms part of the university’s continuous efforts to promote the health and well-being of both staff and students.

According to Mrs. Abigail Kwarteng, a Senior Administrative Assistant at the Wellness Centre, the exercise has evolved over the years to address specific health concerns within the university.

“Initially held as June Wellness Month, it included comprehensive health screenings across the university’s campuses. Two years ago, the screenings were conducted university-wide, while last year’s edition focused on reducing work-related stress through seminars and wellness education sessions,” she explained.

She further noted that this year’s programme has been designed to place special emphasis on hypertension and cholesterol awareness, in response to the rising prevalence of these conditions among adults.

“This year, the programme targets hypertension and cholesterol awareness, with university-wide screenings to help participants identify, understand, and manage these conditions effectively,” she added.

The exercise began with members of the Security Department, who were among the first to undergo screening.

Mrs. Kwarteng acknowledged that although attendance this year has been slightly lower due to the university’s vacation period, the overall response has been encouraging.

The Wellness Centre plans to extend similar screening exercises to other colleges and departments in the coming weeks as part of its commitment to fostering a healthy and productive university workforce.
