The 1988-year group of the Faculty of Agriculture has donated two 65-inch television sets to the faculty to support modern teaching and learning.

The presentation ceremony was attended by members of the 1988-year group and faculty leadership.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. William Kofi Poku, Treasurer of the 1988 cohort, explained that the initiative was inspired by discussions on their alumni platform about giving back to the faculty that shaped their professional lives. Mr. William Kofi Poku

“We formed the 1988 Agriculture platform and agreed to contribute to support the faculty. Through voluntary levies, we raised funds and acquired TVs. This is our way of saying thank you,” Mr. Kofi Poku said.

Beyond the donation, the event also sparked important conversations on how alumni can play a more active role in the life of the faculty.

The ideas discussed included the development of a comprehensive alumni database, the establishment of mentorship opportunities for current students, and the organization of an annual homecoming festival to bring together alumni from various year groups.

“We need to know where our people are, what they do, and how they can support. With a database, if the faculty needs a resource or expert, they can reach out easily. If I had a link back to school, I could have contributed much earlier. We must build that bridge for others,” Mr. Poku emphasized.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Fred Nimoh, expressed appreciation for the donation, noting its value in enhancing teaching and learning.Prof. Fred Nimoh

“This will go a long way to improve the delivery of presentations, slide shows, and other visual-based learning. It’s a step in the right direction,” he remarked.

He also welcomed the suggestions from the alumni, revealing that plans are already underway to formalize alumni engagement through the creation of thematic committees. These committees will be tasked with organizing events, mobilizing resources, and promoting cross-departmental collaboration.

“We are happy to receive this generous donation, but even more excited about the conversations it has sparked. This is the kind of partnership we need,” Prof. Nimoh added.

The event concluded with a call to action, encouraging other year groups to follow the example set by the 1988 alumni.65-inch TV

“Giving back should become a culture. It is how we ensure that the next generation gets better opportunities than we had,” the Dean stated.
