A delegation from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has paid a courtesy visit to the Faculty of Agriculture at the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), KNUST.

The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions and explore strategic partnerships in research, innovation, and academic exchange for both students and staff.

After extensive and insightful discussions, the TUM team expressed their appreciation and enthusiasm for the prospects of collaboration.

Prof. Dr. Johannes Sauer, speaking on behalf of the visiting TUM delegation, highlighted the many promising areas for collaboration and underscored the importance of practical, field-focused research.

“We see a lot of ideas and starting points. While we are happy to train PhD and master’s students, our research must ultimately be translational. The technologies we develop must reach the field, which is why I am particularly excited about the Living Lab discussions,” he remarked.

He expressed his gratitude to CANR for their warm reception and the commitment shown toward building a strong partnership. Prof. Sauer was accompanied by Carlos Boke Pascal.

The Provost of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof. Dadson Awunyo-Vitor, commended the delegation for their visit, acknowledging the significance of the engagement and its potential to open new avenues for impactful academic and research cooperation.

“Thank you for your time and presence here. From the depth of our discussions, we can all see tremendous potential. We are likely to see concrete concepts emerging soon so we can begin implementation, especially in areas that support student and faculty exchange. As these exchanges require funding, we will initiate work from here, as we already have some ideas to build on.” He said.

Also present at the meeting were the Deans of the various Faculties and Heads of Departments. within the College, as well as the Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Edmund Ekuadzi.

The team was led by Dr. Gifty Boakye Appiah of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness and Extension.
