Laurent Koku Sessi of the Agriculture Economics class of 2024 emerged the best graduating student at the 58th congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (KNUST-CANR) with Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) of 82.14.
For most of us, achieving a first-year CWA of 77.44 would be cause for celebration and a goal to maintain until graduation. However, Laurent aimed higher. From the outset, he resolved to stand out among the over 1,300 students enrolled in the college.
“I remember at the end of our first year, I dreamt of standing here, in this very position, doing this very thing.
“You can all imagine how glad I am today to see my dream become a reality through planning and hard work,” he fondly recounted during his valedictory speech.
Laurent, an alumnus of Nsawam Senior High School, faced a challenging start despite his academic potential. The sudden disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic forced the class to transition to online studies. Unreliable internet connectivity made keeping up with lessons a constant struggle.
“I recall our first semester, going through online lectures through zoom, struggling with network issues, and wearing masks that obscured the faces of our classmates.”
With the pandemic gradually losing its grip, Laurent picked up the pieces, ascending to the 80th floor.
He attributes his success to careful planning and perseverance
“Yet, despite these difficulties, we persevered. Let us remain visionary and international as we step into the next chapter of our lives,” he advised his colleagues.
Laurent’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and ambition, serving as an inspiration to all who strive for excellence.
