The Scientific African journal has won the " 2020 Best New Journal in Science, Technology and Medicine" at the PROSE Awards 2020. Dr Benjamin Apraku Gyampoh of the Department of Fisheries and Watershed Management is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal which started in April 2018. The final announcement of winners is available at https://publishers.org/news/association-of-american-publishers-announces-subject-category-winners-of-2020-prose-awards/

The PROSE (Professional and Scholarly Excellence) Awards are presented by the Association of American Publishers' (AAP) annually to recognize the very best in professional and scholarly publishing by bringing attention to distinguished books, journals, and electronic content. The winners were selected by a panel of 19 judges from 157 finalists identified from more than 630 entries in this year’s PROSE Awards competition.

Benji expresses his sincere appreciation to colleagues at the Department of Fisheries and Watershed Management, especially Prof Steve Amisah who has been a great mentor. He thanks the Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the entire KNUST for the support received since the start of the journal. “Colleagues in KNUST have served as editors at different times and still have one on the editorial board of Scientific African, many have been selfless reviewers and there are others who have published their excellent research with Scientific African. I believe it is through your support that this has been achieved and has brought honour to our university”, Benji Gyampoh said.
